New to WP Data Access? Use the App Builder!
The Legacy Tools are a set of tools developed to support database-related tasks. The toolset consists of several independent programs, each tailored to particular activities. Every tool has a unique implementation and user interface. This increases the complexity of maintenance, support, and future development. The legacy toolset has been available since 2017.
App Builder #
In 2023 the team started to build the App Builder. A single tool to handle all database-related tasks. Using cutting-edge frameworks and development tools, supported app types share the same code to facilitate better development and maintenance. All app types also share the same user interface. Wizards and builders are introduced for easy use by the App Builder. In addition, it has hooks that let developers add their own business logic.
Version 6 Removes Legacy Tools #
We’re constantly improving our plugin to provide you with a better, faster, and more secure experience. As part of this evolution, the legacy tools will be removed from the core plugin starting with Version 6, which is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Continue Using Legacy Tools After Version 6 #
Although development on the legacy tools will stop when Version 6 is released, you can continue to use them by staying on the latest Version 5.x.
To keep using legacy tools:
– Disable auto-updates
– Do not update manually to Version 6
Our development team will maintain the last Version 5.x with security updates and critical bug fixes.
Monitoring Updates #
Starting with Version 5.5.79, an info box will appear on the plugin page to inform users about the upcoming changes. This box is shown only if the legacy tools are activated. Updating to the latest release does not yet have any consequences, as the current version still supports the legacy tools.
Starting with Version 6, we will show a warning box on the plugin page. From this point on, updating to the latest release will remove the legacy tools from your server. If you proceed with the update, you will no longer be able to use the legacy tools.
Restoring the Legacy Tools #
When you update to Version 6 or higher, we do not delete your legacy applications. Even after upgrading to Version 6, you can still restore an older version of the plugin that contains the legacy tools. Once restored, your old applications will be available again.
Note: We never delete any of your apps. Deleting apps always requires your personal manual action.
If You Stay on Version 5.x #
If you continue with the latest Version 5.x, you’ll be able to keep using the legacy tools. This version also includes Version 5.x of the App Builder.
Important considerations:
✅ Legacy tools continue working
✅ Apps work if you upgrade to Version 6.x later
⚠️ The App Builder will not receive updates on Version 5.x
⚠️ You will miss out on new features and improvements
